SILLOO DORDI

(March 11, 1939 – January 26, 2023)

Beloved by all who knew her, Silloo lived a selfless and courageous life on her own terms. A kind and gentle woman, she provided comfort, compassion, and solace to others while asking little in return. She prioritized her family above all else, and her faith in God never wavered.

Born in Mumbai, India to Piroja and Minocher Darukhanawalla, she was the youngest of their four children. Her older siblings, Mehroo, Behram, and Dolly, who she loved dearly, predeceased her.

In her youth, she was a trailblazer, obtaining her Associate Degree and working for Air India at a time when few women worked outside the home in India. She met the love of her life, Firoze, while both were working for Air India. She proposed to Firoze which, at the time, was revolutionary. They married for love when the majority of marriages in India were arranged. Their 64-year relationship and 57-year marriage serves as an inspiration for many. Together they traveled the world and raised two loving sons, Khushroo and Firdaus, inculcating in them the best of their Indian values, Parsi heritage, and American ideals. She instilled in them Zarathustra’s teachings of humata (good thoughts), hukhta (good words), and huvarshta (good deeds) as being the essence of a well-lived life.

In 1979, Silloo and Firoze moved to Los Angeles with the hope of providing their sons a better life. In 1984, they established a travel agency, Maazda Travel. For over 36 years, Silloo and Firoze worked side by side, forging long and lasting friendships in Los Angeles.

Silloo battled breast cancer two times, ten years apart. She was a fighter, emerging victorious each time. These experiences made her even more resolute in her faith.

More than anything, she adored her four grandchildren and loved spoiling them. The very thought of them brought a sparkle to her eyes and a smile to her face.

Silloo is survived by her doting husband, Firoze, her adoring sons, Khushroo and Firdaus, her loving daughters-in-law, Reshma and Mansi, and her beautiful grandchildren, Trishta, Mateo, Santiago, and Karina, all of whom will miss her dearly.
