Obituary of Randy Allan Shuman

Please share a memory of Randy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Randy Allen Shuman, resident of Anaheim, California, passed away on February 24, 2022, at the age of 69 while at his home in Anaheim. He was born in Long Beach on July 2, 1952, the third of four sons to Roger Wesley Shuman, Sr. and Maxine Sarah Moore. Upon leaving high school, he enlisted in the US Navy from 1972 to 1976 and was proud to serve the America he loved. He worked in the engine room on the ship as a Machinist Mate Class A. After his honorable Navy discharge, Randy went to Long Beach Community College and obtained his Associates Degree in Art. He later met his girlfriend Lanita Marie Garcia and welcomed one son, Timothy Ryan Shuman into the world during 1981.

In 1990 Randy began working at Power Paragon now known as L3 Harris where he met the love of his life, Susan Ellen Shuman. The couple married September 6, 2002. He welcomed her children Valerie Lynn Greenbeck and Steven Lee Gates as part of their new family.  Randy and Susan were married just shy of twenty years.

Randy was one of those rare individuals gracing this world. The man was an enigma to most; intensely loved by some and misunderstood by many. He was extremely bright and could focus on solving a problem to the detriment of everything else around him. One of Randy’s gifts was his ability to “think outside the box”. The creative process he used to come up with a solution to a problem involved putting fresh eyes and an unthought-of-angle of attack on resolving the problem. It was a joy witnessed by a select few. When Randy tackled a problem, he was all in. He was like a Pit Bull with a bone.

He was a hard-core atheist in his younger years and endeavored to make a detailed study to disprove the existence of God. In doing so, his path led to his becoming a devout Christian. In addition to his Faith in God he loved to go on camping trips where he would go on hikes or just sit and read, bird watch and have a barbeque with his camping friends. This world is a sadder place without Randy. Heaven rejoices in his homecoming. To those who knew and loved him, he was a breath of fresh air, a joy. He was one of a kind, our Randy…

Randy is survived by his Wife: Susan Ellen Shuman; 3 Children; Valerie Lynn Greenbeck, Steven Lee Gates, Timothy Ryan Shuman; 3 Grandchildren; Hailey Elizabeth Ruane, Heather Paige Ruane, Ava Shuman and Brother; Roger Wesley Shuman Jr.
