Obituary of Sangamitra - Kothapa

Smt. Dr Sangamitra Kothapa- A life’s journey Rani Sangamitra Devi (aka Kothapa) was born on Feb 6th 1959 and passed away on 15th May 2019, at age 60. Fondly known as Jikki and to close friends as Sanga, she was the third child of Late Dr S.Ramachander Rao and Smt Jagath Kumari of Hyderabad, India. “Sangam” means union or coming together and “Mitra” means friend, and her life was an embodiment of these values. Jikki was an extraordinarily beautiful, talented and bright lady with a captivating and innocent smile. She completed her primary and high school from St Anns Convent, Secunderabad and Intermediate Education from St Frances College, two catholic institutions that instilled discipline and values. She was an honors student throughout and was selected through a highly competitive medical school entrance examination to pursue a MD degree at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. She moved to USA and completed her Family Practitioner Residency and settled in Orange County, Los Angeles as a solo Family Physician for 29 years. She was a very compassionate and dedicated physician. Her passion was Bharatanatyam, an Indian Classical dance that she mastered and gave a solo recital for 3 hours at age 9, enthralling an audience of over 1000 guests. She instilled this passion in her 2 daughters Anisha and Suchetha, who also completed their arangetrams. She was a very orthodox hindu woman, who cherished and practiced hindu festivals, customs and rites. A visit to a temple, church or holy shrine, however arduous, was a highlight, and always brought joy and happinss. She was a strong devotee of Shirdhi Saibaba. She was a dutiful daughter to her parents, a devoted wife and soul mate to Ramesh, a loving and caring mother to Anisha and Suchetha, an affectionate sister to her 3 brothers Satish, Amalesh and Sunil, a kind and obliging member to cousins and relatives, and an adoring and compassionate friend to all. We celebrate her life during this earthly journey, and grateful to Almighty for blessing us with this jewel.
