CEMETERY FLOWER & DECORATION REGULATIONS AS OF MARCH 1, 2019
Fresh cut flowers are permitted throughout the entire cemetery and will be removed weekly on Wednesday for landscaping and mausoleum maintenance.
Artificial flowers may be used year round in the mausoleum only and will be removed and disposed of quarterly* (January, April, July, October) for maintenance.
Artificial flowers, decorations, and potted plants are ONLY PERMITTED throughout the cemetery during these observed holidays or day of observation:
1 WEEK BEFORE & 1 WEEK AFTER:
- New Year’s Day
- First Day of Lunar New Year
- Mother’s Day
- Memorial Day
- All Souls Day (Dia de los Muertos)
- Veterans Day
1 DAY BEFORE & 1 DAY AFTER:
- Valentine’s Day
- First Day of Eid al-Fitr
- Father’s Day
- First Day of Eid al-Adha
- First Day of Rosh Hashanah
- First Day of Hanukkah
Any potted plants/shrubs/small trees, decorations (including but not limited to; candles, balloons, pinwheels, solar lights, statues, toys, pictures, ornaments, religious items, planter boxes, trellises, wire/metal items, flags, etc.) placed on a grave or in the mausoleum other than during cemetery Observed Holiday Schedule, will be removed and disposed of by cemetery personnel. Grave spaces may not be defined and demarcated by any kind of fence, railing, hedge, trench or embankments.
Unauthorized vases, containers, benches, statues and memorials are not permitted and will be removed by cemetery personnel. Cemetery-authorized vases are available purchase in the cemetery office and are installed by cemetery personnel.
Any floral display, holiday decoration or funeral flowers may be removed and disposed of by cemetery personnel prior to scheduled maintenance if they become unsightly at the discretion of Melrose Abbey.
To avoid attracting insects, pests, wild animals and disease, any food or drink offering may be removed and thrown away by cemetery personnel every day. Thank you for your understanding.
